Micro-scale is one of the fields where traditional photography may not always be the best or easiest solution.
Of course thanks to cutting-edge lences, a professional photographer is able to capture minute objects, nevertheless, it is not possible for them to enter the dimension of microns, atoms or quantums by means of this technology.
Computer generated images allow to render detailed vizualizations of tiniest particles, the only limit being here the imagination of the artist.
The below (overdrawn) example of a microprocessor depicts how easy it is to drift from a real to micro-scale thanks to visualization technique.
Due to the fact that virtual reality can be created from the scratch, the scale of visualisation is very flexible.
Most importantly there is also no limit to the level of detail of a micro-scale object in case of a computer generated visualization.
In one of my projects I was asked to depict an outer casing of a product that was covered with an advanced technique of painting.
Surely, making a photograph depictng a cut of a 0,4mm mild steel sheet covered with a 6 micron galvanisation layer, 60 micron powder coating layer and a 30 micron UV proof layer would not be possible using traditional photography.
Of course the image showed symbollical idea of these technological processes, still it conveyed the meaning meant by the author and allowed to succesfully assure the customer about the highest level of finish of the product.
This dimension of visualization proves very useful when you are to depict different kinds of advanced technological processes and will surely enrich every presentation or catalogue.
