Capturing very big objects, although easier than micro-scale, can also appear problematic for traditional photography.
It’s not always possible to achieve sufficient distance from the object, set focal distance or avoid distortion of the object.
Very often it is also difficult to assure appropriate background for the object.
Product visualisation again comes here in handy with its limitless scaling possibilities.
Below you can find a nice example I was inspired to create by a photo I had bumped onto in the web.
The photo itself was rather usless for any marketing purpose as the gigantic dumper truck was surrounded with herds of visitors (photo from a trade fair) and a complicated backround.
I thought it would be difficult for the producer of this truck to make a nice photo of their product due to their scale.
Recreating this photo by means of a simple sketch-style visualisation on a 100% neutral background with a reference point (to do justice to the size of the product) created costs that I dare say would be way smaller than driving this monster several hundred meters to a yard where a relatively nice photo could be taken.
Surely, with a little time, organization, professional photographer, equipment and some after effects such, or even a better photograph could be taken.
In today’s world, however time and money is all (and one) and it is worh to consider economic aspects of certain undertakings.
In this and similar cases, making a product visualzation instead of taking a photo would be the right choice.
